Abstract

The aim of the course is to enable managers to explore issues relating to the concepts of motivational interviewing.  Course participants will be given thorough grounding in utilising this methodological framework within the workplace setting.  The focus of the course will address issues pertinent to working with staff that they supervise and line manage.  Participants will be given guidance in applying counselling skills in the context of motivational interviewing terms.  Participants will also learn to recognise the difference between helping and therapeutic support, consequently to acknowledge appropriate limitations within their management role.
